Diabetes Contraception and Pregnancy Planning for GPs

Women of reproductive age with any type of diabetes who can become pregnant infographic. Different women have different needs: 1. Women who have effective contraception in place (Mirena, Implanon, T/L) and don’t want to become pregnant: No action required unless decide to cease contraception and/or plan pregnancy. 2. Women who have less effective or no contraception in place but don’t want to become pregnant: Have a conversation on effective contraception to avoid becoming pregnant. Women who are not on any contraception but are planning or may be planning to fall pregnant: Please refer to your local pre-pregnancy diabetes clinic urgently (many are pregnant before being seen!). 4. Women who are already pregnant: Please refer to your local diabetes in pregnancy clinic URGENTLY. They should be seen as early as possible and preferably before 10 weeks’ gestation at the latest.
